About the Course

Yoga for 12 Step Recovery is an adjunct for 12-Step Recovery Meetings and Step Studies.

Welcome to our Yoga for 12-Step Recovery (Y12SR) class, a unique offering that combines the healing practices of yoga and the wisdom of the 12-Step recovery model. This class provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals on their path to recovery from addiction, trauma, or other challenges.

As you enter the studio, you'll find a welcoming and non-judgmental space where individuals with shared experiences gather to support one another. Led by a compassionate and specially trained and certified instructor, the Y12SR class integrates the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of yoga with the principles and practices of the 12-Step Program.

The class begins with a brief opening circle, where participants have the opportunity to introduce themselves, share their intentions, and connect with others on their recovery journey. This circle fosters a sense of community, empathy, and mutual support.

The yoga practice in Y12SR is designed to address the specific needs and challenges of those in recovery. It includes a combination of gentle movements, breathwork, meditation, and guided self-inquiry. The practices are accessible to all levels of fitness and flexibility, and modifications are offered to ensure individual comfort and safety.

Throughout the class, the instructor weaves in the themes and principles of the 12-Step Program, integrating them into the yoga practice. The class may incorporate readings, discussions, and reflections on the various steps, traditions, or other aspects of the recovery process. This integration provides a unique opportunity to explore the connections between yoga philosophy and the principles of recovery.

The yoga practice itself offers numerous benefits for those in recovery. It helps to release physical tension and promote a sense of relaxation and grounding. Through mindful movement and breathwork, participants learn to cultivate self-awareness, manage stress and cravings, and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

Y12SR also provides a space for individuals to explore and process emotions and experiences that arise during the practice. The combination of yoga and the support of the group can foster emotional resilience, self-acceptance, and personal growth.

The class concludes with a closing circle, allowing participants to share their insights, reflections, and gratitude. This circle offers an opportunity for continued connection, encouragement, and accountability within the group.

Yoga for 12-Step Recovery is not a replacement for professional addiction treatment or therapy but serves as a complementary practice that supports individuals in their recovery journey. This practice provides a holistic approach to healing, addressing the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of well-being.

Whether you are new to recovery or have been on the path for a while, our Y12SR class offers a supportive and empowering space to deepen your connection with yourself, others, and your recovery journey. Join us in this transformative practice that combines the wisdom of yoga and the 12-Step model to support your continued growth, healing, and well-being.
